It’s been a rough year for Canadian brick manufacturers, and the new year has brought more bad news for them.
In an update on the Brick Factory website, the company revealed that sales of its most popular bricks, the M2, are down 5 per cent this year compared to last.
The M2 was a popular product for the company back in the 1990s, and is still in production today.
It features a two-stage design, with a 1,400-square-metre base, and a 2,800-square metre body.
The base has a “slip resistant finish” and a durable, mould-resistant finish.
The base is “soft and resilient to impacts,” the company says.
In fact, the only “impact” that the M1 was known for was from hitting it with a golf club during an early version of its construction.
The company has now closed the doors on its brick factory in Milton, Ontario, and will focus on its other brick brands.
The last of those is the M3, which is currently manufactured in Montreal.
The Brick Factory also says it has sold its inventory of M1 bricks at its Toronto plant, but that it is not looking to reopen the factory.
